Advanced French III - Un jour j'irai en Tahiti
The following recording shows a part of a lesson that I did on Tahiti. As you will notice, this lesson was conducted virtually using Zoom and Canvas during the Covid-19 pandemic. My objectives for this lesson were as follows:
-
I can say what someone will do in the future.
-
I can describe Tahiti's relationship with France.
In the days prior to this lesson, students had been introduced to the future tense. This lesson features au authentic resource (a song) in which students work to recognize the grammatical forms under study. The lesson also references current events, utilizes authentic pop culture references, and asks students to relate to and reflect on intercultural perspectives.
French II - L'histoire de l'esclavage en Martinique et Guadeloupe
This video shows a part of a lesson that I did on the history of slavery in Martinique and Guadeloupe. As you will notice, this lesson was conducted virtually using Zoom and Canvas during the Covid-19 pandemic. This particular lesson was a part of a unit on traveling to Guadeloupe and Martinique. My objectives for this unit were as follows:
-
I can say what I did and saw on a past vacation to Martinique.
-
I can say what someone else did and saw on a past vacation to Martinique.
-
I can add detail and connecting words to a past story.
-
I can understand a series of readings & videos about the culture/history of Martinique and Guadeloupe.
-
(In English) I can describe Martinique/Guadeloupe's relationship to France and history of colonialism & slavery.
In this unit, students were introduced to the passé composé, as well as a variety of vocabulary they could use to describe a past trip to Martinique or Guadeloupe. I also added Social Justice elements to this unit by encouraging students to reflect on the role that Martinique and Guadeloupe's history of colonialism and slavery might affect their present reality. This particular lesson focused on the history of slavery and how it is commemorated in French-speaking countries today.
